LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the teaching unit, students will be able to:
- Read and interpret usual pure-compound thermodynamic diagrams,
- Calculate a multiphase thermodynamic equilibrium.
- Describe and explain the basic concepts of electrochemistry, including electrochemical reactions,
- Apply the basic concepts of electrochemistry to electrolyzers and fuel cells to analyze their operation,
- Assess the impact of operating conditions on the short- and long-term performance of electrolyzers.
- Memorize the fundamentals of the electricity value chain, identify equipment used for the grid and list the yields at each step of the energy transformation,
- Describe the different pathways to produce low carbon hydrogen,
- Compare the technologies to produce low carbon hydrogen in terms of CO2 emissions, challenges, and costs.
