Learning Objectives
At the end of this teaching unit, the student is able to make use of seismic data from a structural and tectonic point of view and, more particularly:
  • describe the network of faults and associated deformation and thus restore the geometry in a consistent way,
  • determine the chronology of deformation by identifying the pre-, syn- and post-deformation sequences,
  • reconstruct the successive geometries of the basin through the course of time.
The student will thus become familiar with the various types of basin and structural traps likely to be encountered in oil and gas exploration and will be ready to understand the particular properties of fractured reservoirs.
